There’s no shortage of incredible organizations and charities in Uxbridge that are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Uxbridge residents, and we’re so lucky to have a wealth of support to turn to when we need a helping hand or a friendly face.

Here are just a few of the wonderful organizations you can support in our community.

North House 

North House is a non-profit organization that provides a spectrum of housing support for those who are at risk or in crisis within the communities of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog.

Looking for a way to support North House? Donations are always appreciated! Become a monthly donor to provide a consistent and reliable source of funding, or make a one time and/or memorial donation to help restore hope and dignity to vulnerable and marginalized members of your community. North House is always looking for volunteers to assist with events, operational support, and leadership roles.

Community events are also  a great way to benefit the work of North House. Whether you’re hosting a garage sale, golf tournament, car wash or even a lemonade stand, no event is too big or too small! Submit an event proposal form and a representative from North House will get back to you.

Sunrise Uxbridge 

Dedicated to strengthening and empowering pregnant women and single parents, Sunrise Uxbridge is non-profit organization that provides opportunities to connect with other parents, assistance with finishing high school credits, building healthy cooking skills, parenting tips, classes, and more! Sunrise is always looking for volunteers to join their weekly parenting support program, fundraising committees and board of directors.

Sunrise regularly hosts a Baby Bottle Drive wit every donation helping families in the community thrive and goes towards transportation to pre/postnatal appointments, deliveries of diapers and essentials, weekly parenting support sessions, mental health support and more. Donations can be made through their website or Facebook page. If you would like to collect loose change, email info@sunriseuxbridge.com to arrange pick-up of a baby bottle! Alternatively, donations by cheque can be mailed to P.O. Box 1807, Uxbridge, L9P 1N9.

Loaves and Fishes Food Bank

The Uxbridge Loaves and Fishes Food Bank is a food collection service based at the St. Andrew’s Chalmers Presbyterian Church, and they’re always looking for volunteers and non-perishable food donations. Not sure what food items you should donate? These are the things the food bank uses the most:

Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity

Since its inception in 1990, the Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity has helped over 15,000 seriously ill children and their families with funding for hospital and household costs, specialized care, medical treatments and therapies. Born out of a personal journey and struggle of caring for a seriously-ill child, JACC works closely with children’s hospitals across Ontario to cover costs for children that are not covered by hospital funds, OHIP, or private insurance.

You can lend a helping hand to JACC by becoming a monthly or one-time donator, becoming a corporate partner or donating your time and expertise as a volunteer!

Uxbridge Youth Centre

The Uxbridge Youth Centre is a free after-school drop-in centre for youth ages 11 and up that offers a safe and supervised space for young people to hang out and enjoy fun daily programs. Have an interesting skill or hobby that would make for a fun program for youth? The UYC is always looking for volunteers! Currently, the UYC is offering fun online activities like scavenger hunts, art projects, writing workshops, trivia nights and much more!

The UYC is always accepting donations to help fund its programs and activities.

Uxbridge Hospital Foundation

The Uxbridge Hospital Foundation’s mission is to encourage support from individuals and businesses within the Uxbridge community and raise funds for new equipment, renovations and/or special projects for the Uxbridge site of Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Donations to the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation can be made by mail, online, in-person or by phone. Alternatively, you can also support the UHF through the Uxbridge Hospital Auxiliary and their second-hand store, Chances Are.

Precious Minds

Precious Minds was established in 1999 in order to provide information, resources and programs for families with children who have barriers to learning, as well as provide financial assistance to help with the cost of therapy and equipment used to enhance the development and learning of children with special needs. Always accepting donations and looking for volunteers to assist with programming, getting involved with Precious Minds begins by visiting their website or calling their office at 905-982-0882.

Re-Store / Habitat for Humanity Durham

At the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, you’ll find a mix of used and almost-new home items including furniture, appliances, hardware, renovation items and more. Donating to Habitat Re-Store can make a lasting difference in people’s lives throughout your community. All proceeds from the Re-Stores go directly toward affordable home build projects from Habitat for Humanity.

100 Men Who Care

This incredible community group brings together 100 men in Uxbridge who want to make a difference in the community and are committed to community service. Gathering for just one hour every three months,100 Men Who Care selects a local charity or not-for-profit organization and write a $100 cheque (per person) to the chosen organization. New members are warmly welcomed!

Cam’s Kids

Cam’s Kids is committed to providing support to young people dealing with anxiety by helping them identify anxiety and get the resources they need to manage and overcome it. Cam’s Kids is always looking for youth ambassadors to join their organization at colleges and universities across the country, and are also always accepting donations.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham

The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of North Durham match volunteers with vulnerable and in-need youth to provide high-quality, volunteer-based mentoring programs. Community Care Durham

Community Care Durham is a multi-service charitable organization that provides a wide range of support services for individuals over the age of 16 and their caregivers, including day programs, assisted living, mental health support, Meals on Wheels and more! CCD depends on the generous support of donors and is always looking for volunteers to help with programming and services!

Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources

With a goal to provide quality and flexible children’s services and programs to rural families living in Durham Region, Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources was created to address the rising incidence of injuries to children being taken into a farm-based workplace and increase opportunities for children and their families.
